What is relaxation?

Relaxation is fundamental to dealing with so many issues, if you can calm the body you can calm the mind. It is very hard to worry or be anxious if you are relaxed. The 'relaxation response' is the opposite of the 'fight or flight' and an essential response. With practice, if you learn to control relaxation, you can control your other thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Breathing techniques and understanding how to breathe deeply and effectively for relaxation can be a really effective and a life changing skill.

We can practise relaxation skills training and techniques such as progressive muscle relaxation and tension release breathing. Along with breathing exercises these easy to learn relaxation techniques can help you cope with everyday stress by inducing the body’s natural relaxation response and a feeling of increased well being.
